Belal Muhammad Gets His Wish from UFC
Belal Muhammad has expressed his gratitude to Dana White and the UFC after the Palestinian flag was reinstated on his official UFC profile. The welterweight champion had been waiting a long time for this change.
Muhammad’s Call for Change
A few days ago, the reigning welterweight champion voiced his disappointment about the absence of the Palestinian flag on his UFC profile. This came despite the UFC lifting its ban on flags in 2023. Muhammad took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his frustration and demand answers from the organization.
The Flag Issue
In a video posted on social media, Muhammad revealed that he had received numerous messages from fans asking why the Palestinian flag was missing. With no explanation to offer, he decided to reach out directly to UFC President Dana White.
“So, I’ll address it and hope that Dana addresses it as well, fixes it – because Dana said he’s all about free speech, he’s all about people supporting who they wanna support, and not muting or silencing anybody.”
Praise for Dana White
Shortly after his public appeal, Muhammad shared an update, stating that he had a conversation with White regarding the issue. According to Muhammad, White apologized for the oversight and assured him that the Palestinian flag would be reinstated on his profile.
Following the discussion, the UFC made the necessary update, and Muhammad expressed his appreciation for the organization.
“The UFC is the only organization that truly values fighters’ freedom of expression. Here, we can be ourselves, and I appreciate that.”

Muhammad’s Next Title Defense
Muhammad captured the welterweight title after defeating Leon Edwards at UFC 304 on July 28, 2024. He was initially scheduled to defend his belt against Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 but had to withdraw due to injury.
Now fully recovered, Muhammad is set to make his first title defense against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 on May 10, 2025, at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada.
With the flag issue resolved, Muhammad will now enter the octagon fully representing his heritage.
Freedom or Restriction?
Belal Muhammad has thanked UFC and Dana White for resolving the issue and allowing him to proudly display the Palestinian flag. But this situation raises an important question:
Should the UFC regulate which flags can be displayed, or should fighters have complete freedom to represent their heritage?
