Shara Magomedov Addresses First Loss: “Nightmarish Health Condition”

Shara Magomedov speaks out after suffering first UFC loss to Michael Page.

Michael Page Ends Magomedov’s Undefeated Streak

In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 250, Russian rising star Shara “Bullet” Magomedov suffered the first loss of his professional career. British striking specialist Michael “Venom” Page secured a unanimous decision victory, with judges scoring the fight 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28. The event took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and marked a successful UFC debut for Page.

Magomedov entered the fight undefeated with a 15-0 record and had previously expressed interest in fighting former champion Israel Adesanya. Instead, he was matched against Adesanya’s longtime friend and training partner, Michael Page, who moved up a weight class for this bout. The contest turned into a one-sided striking battle, with Page proving too elusive for Magomedov.

Magomedov Blames Health Struggles for Poor Performance

After the fight, Magomedov took to Instagram to address his loss. He revealed that serious health issues had impacted his training camp and overall performance. The Russian admitted he felt physically weak and unable to perform at his best.

“The pirate docks at the harbor, but I will be back! I knew all the risks when I stepped in with such a nightmarish health condition and preparations. I still believed I could win – but it didn’t happen, and that’s it.

Thanks to @UFC for this opportunity and to everyone involved. I wanted to put on a show and meet expectations without canceling the fight. Thanks to everyone who supports me no matter what!” – Magomedov via Instagram.

Magomedov has previously undergone eight surgeries due to a serious eye injury, which led to the partial removal of his right eye. This condition has affected his vision and reaction time, making it even harder to deal with fast, elusive strikers like Page.

Page’s Footwork and Speed Prove Too Much

From the opening round, Page controlled the distance with his exceptional movement and counter-striking. Magomedov struggled to land clean shots, while Page dictated the pace by moving in and out of range with ease.

By the end of round two, Magomedov had landed only 18 significant strikes, compared to Page’s higher accuracy and efficiency. Although Magomedov showed some improvement in round three, it was not enough to change the outcome. Two judges scored all three rounds for Page, while the third awarded Magomedov the final round.

What’s Next for Both Fighters?

This victory cements Page as a serious contender in the UFC’s middleweight division. After a long and successful run in Bellator MMA, he has now proven that he belongs among UFC’s elite strikers. He has already expressed interest in facing higher-ranked opponents, possibly even aiming for a title shot in the future.

For Magomedov, this loss is a wake-up call. He must focus on recovering from his health issues before stepping into the octagon again. Given his physical struggles and less-than-ideal fight preparation, taking a longer break before his next bout might be the best decision.
