Pereira’s Next Challenger: Who Can Stop His Dominance?

UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has headlined three major PPV events this year, including the milestone UFC 300 in April. Pereira has finished all his opponents via knockout or TKO throughout 2024, proving to be one of the most dominant forces in the sport. At UFC 307 this past weekend, the Brazilian clashed with UFC star Khalil Rountree Jr. In a thrilling match, Pereira ended the fight with a brutal series of punches in the fourth round. UFC President Dana White praised the 37-year-old’s performance during the post-fight press conference.

“What this guy has done is unbelievable. And the way he’s done it, he destroys everyone. The guy always wants to fight, and he’s 37 years old, not 28. He’s done a lot for us, and we’ll see what’s next.”

Pereira’s Next Opponent Still Uncertain

It remains unclear who Pereira will face next. Several top figures in the MMA world believe the Brazilian should defend his title against Russia’s Magomed Ankalaev. However, Ankalaev is scheduled to fight the highly-ranked UFC talent Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi. The outcome of that bout could determine who challenges Pereira for the light heavyweight crown later this year or in early 2025.

Despite Pereira’s advancing age, he continues to prove himself as one of the UFC’s most dangerous fighters. Known for his knockout power and relentless forward pressure, the Brazilian has quickly become a fan favorite and a nightmare for anyone standing across the octagon.
