Dan Hooker’s Coach Predicts Win Over Oliveira
Coach Michael Angove Shares His Thoughts on a Potential Fight Against Charles Oliveira
Dan Hooker made a successful return to the octagon this year after a year-long hiatus due to injuries, securing a split-decision victory over Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 305. Gamrot, who was ranked 5th in the lightweight division, was dethroned by Hooker, who now occupies his spot. This win has opened the door to several exciting potential matchups for Hooker, including fights against top contenders like Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, or Charles Oliveira. Hooker’s coach, Michael Angove, recently discussed how he envisions a fight between Hooker and Oliveira playing out.
Oliveira Must Be in Top Form Against Hooker
According to Angove, Charles Oliveira would need to be at his absolute best to overcome Hooker, a fighter known for his relentless toughness. He emphasized that Oliveira’s grappling and striking are dangerous, but he believes the Brazilian also has vulnerabilities that Hooker could exploit. Angove commented:
“I believe Charles is extremely dangerous in many different ways. His grappling is top-notch, and he’s very aggressive on the feet, but he has weaknesses. If you show any sign of mental weakness against someone like Dan, he’ll capitalize on it and grow stronger. Oliveira needs to be the best version of himself to face Dan. If there’s even a hint of weakness, Dan will absorb it like a vampire and take Oliveira down.”

Oliveira Looking for a Comeback Fight
Charles Oliveira was last seen in the octagon against Arman Tsarukyan, where he lost via a close split decision in a fight that determined the next challenger for Islam Makhachev’s title. With this loss, Oliveira needs to string together a few wins before earning another title shot, and a fight against Hooker could be an ideal stepping stone.
Hooker Eager for Another Fight
Dan Hooker has expressed interest in fighting again before the year ends, possibly in November or December. Given that both Hooker and Oliveira are known for never backing down and consistently delivering entertaining fights, a matchup between the two seems highly plausible. However, with Hooker just coming off a fight, some time might be needed for recovery before any official announcement is made.
