Jon Jones Wants Record Changed After New MMA Rules
MMA Rule Changes Announced
Last Tuesday, the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports (ABC) Mixed Martial Arts Committee announced significant changes to the unified MMA rules. Previously, the controversial “12-6 elbow” rule prohibited elbow strikes directly downward, from the 12 o’clock to the 6 o’clock position. Along with redefining what constitutes a “grounded” opponent, these changes have been a topic of debate within the MMA community.
Impact on Jon Jones
Current UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who holds a 27-1 (1 NC) record, is particularly excited about the elimination of the 12-6 elbow rule. His only loss came from a disqualification for using this strike against Matt Hamill in 2009. Jones hopes to have this loss overturned, potentially changing his record to 27-0 (2 NC).
Jones expressed his feelings on Instagram:
– “Obesegrad då, obesegrad nu. Dana White, vi måste få bort den förlusten ur historieböckerna.”
Future Implications
The rule change, effective November 1, aims to standardize and educate referees and ringside physicians. Although Jones might appeal to have his loss removed, the long time elapsed makes this unlikely. However, the decision reflects broader efforts to refine MMA regulations.
