Chimaev’s Fight Canceled

The 29-year-old was originally slated to face former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker in the event’s main fight. Yesterday, UFC commentator Daniel Cormier commented on Chimaev’s canceled match. Cormier expressed his admiration for the 29-year-old’s progression in the UFC.

“I wonder if you can burn out when you start your career the way he did. Khamzat Chimaev fought two matches in two weeks on Fight Island. He did it fantastically. Then he went to UFC Apex and knocked out Gerald Meerschaert. Everyone thought he would become the best in the world, he could finish anyone.

“Then he defeated Kamaru Usman, a former champion. Despite beating Usman, it felt like he lost some of the hype he had built around himself.”

Khamzat’s UFC Journey

Khamzat made his UFC debut in Abu Dhabi in 2020 against John Phillips. Since then, the 29-year-old has secured six consecutive victories in the world-leading MMA organization.
