Dana White on Khamzat Chimaev: “I Don’t Know What to Say”

“Difficulties managing Chimaev’s career, says White”

Struggles with Khamzat’s Career

UFC President Dana White has opened up about the challenges of managing Khamzat Chimaev’s career, especially after the fighter withdrew from his upcoming bout against Robert Whittaker. The fight, scheduled for June 22, will now see Whittaker face Ikram Aliskerov instead.

Khamzat burst onto the UFC scene in 2020 with an impressive start, securing three victories in just 66 days. However, his activity has drastically decreased, with only four fights in the past 45 months.

Latest Withdrawal

The latest disruption comes as Khamzat was set to fight Whittaker, but had to pull out due to severe illness. The specifics of his condition remain undisclosed, and Dana White expressed his frustration:

“The problem is that we don’t really know what’s going on. I saw videos of him being very sick, lying on the ground, and he was back in the hospital. He hadn’t trained for three to four days,” White stated. He added that getting Chimaev to the octagon has been difficult recently due to his recurring health issues.

Optimism from Chimaev’s Manager

Despite these setbacks, Khamzat’s manager, Majdi Shammas, remains optimistic about his return. Chimaev’s last fight was against Kamaru Usman on October 21, 2023, and while there is hope for a comeback, his current inactivity is concerning.
