Video: Anderson Silva Open Workout Ahead of Chael Sonnen Boxing Match
Anderson Silva will box longtime rival Chael Sonnen in a five-round exhibition, headlining Spaten Fight Night in São Paulo on June 15. The former UFC middleweight champion was joined by boxing coach Luiz Dorea for an open workout at Aterro do Flamengo, Rio de Janeiro, on Sunday.
The Rivalry Rekindled
Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen have one of the most storied rivalries in MMA history. Their first bout at UFC 117 saw Sonnen dominate for almost the entire fight before Silva secured a last-minute victory via triangle choke. This fight is set to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer. Their rematch at UFC 148 ended with Silva delivering a decisive second-round TKO.
Spaten Fight Night
Spaten Fight Night is sponsored by Anheuser Busch InBev, marking the first time a major Brazilian beer company has associated itself with MMA and other combat sports. The event in São Paulo is expected to host only 600 VIP guests, making it an exclusive affair.
Silva’s Open Workout
During the open workout, Silva showcased his sharp skills and conditioning under the guidance of Luiz Dorea. The session drew many fans eager to see “The Spider” in action one last time in Brazil. Dorea, who has trained Silva for years, expressed confidence in Silva’s readiness for the bout.

Silva’s Boxing Career
Since retiring from the UFC in 2020, Anderson Silva has transitioned to professional boxing. His record stands at 2-1-1, including wins over Julio César Chávez Jr. and Tito Ortiz, and a loss to Jake Paul in 2022. Chael Sonnen, who retired from MMA in 2019, has never boxed professionally but remains a significant draw due to his history with Silva.
The fight card is set to begin at 3:00 AM Swedish time, allowing fans in Sweden to catch the action live. Silva vs. Sonnen promises to be an electrifying chapter in their legendary rivalry.
