Cormier Questions Topuria’s Choices Amid Rogan’s Claims
Rogan Alleges Topuria Declined Volkanovski Fight at UFC 305
Former UFC champion and commentator Daniel Cormier has raised questions about featherweight champion Ilia Topuria’s strategy following Joe Rogan’s claim that Topuria turned down a fight with Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 305.
UFC 305: Missing a Main Event
Scheduled for August 18 in Perth, Australia, UFC 305 is still missing its main event. However, there are rumors that UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis will defend his title against Israel Adesanya, as hinted by the South African champion on his Instagram.
The Topuria-Holloway Rivalry Heats Up
After his spectacular knockout at UFC 300, Max Holloway aimed for a title match against “El Matador” Topuria, igniting their rivalry. Since then, both fighters have exchanged harsh words on social media regarding a potential fight.
During his appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast, Holloway expressed frustration about Topuria’s reluctance to fight top-ranked opponents.
“Topuria doesn’t want to face anyone in the top 15; it seems like the guy wants to fight himself,” said Max Holloway. Rogan added that Topuria had been offered a rematch against Volkanovski at UFC 305 in Perth but declined.
“I don’t know who he wants to face next,” Rogan commented. “But it seems like he thinks he’s the champ and can decide what happens next. I know he turned down the fight in Perth, the rematch against Volkanovski.”

Cormier’s Take on Topuria’s Decisions
Daniel Cormier discussed Topuria’s situation and questioned the champion’s approach.
“You need a name from the previous generation on your record. But Ilia seems to be taking a different approach; I’m not exactly sure what it is,” Cormier remarked on his YouTube channel.
“He said he wouldn’t face Brian Ortega, he said he wouldn’t face Max Holloway, and now it sounds like he won’t face Alexander Volkanovski again. These are the names from the featherweight league; he doesn’t seem willing to face these guys.”
“I don’t know if he has as much say as he thinks he does. Right now, Max Holloway is clearly the next guy, if not Alexander Volkanovski. It doesn’t look good right now, as he dismisses all these guys without a clear understanding of who else is out there,” Cormier concluded.
