UFC rival makes bold prediction: Makhachev vs. Poirier!
Michael Chandler shared his thoughts on the next lightweight title fight between Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier on Instagram!
Arman Tsarukyan refused to face Makhachev on short notice at UFC 302, which means that we will see “The Diamond” Poirier compete for the lightweight belt next.
The crowd favorite is coming off a spectacular win over Benoit Saint-Denis, but in the fight before that he suffered a heavy KO loss to Justin Gaethje. With the division having no other clear contenders right now besides Tsarukyan, Poirier will get a third chance to win a UFC belt despite the loss.
Poirier has had two previous opportunities to win the UFC title, and he didn’t come out on top either time. He lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira via submission. Chandler is certain that this third and probably final attempt will end the same way.

– Poirier and I have history, Chandler said. Poirier doesn’t like me, and I don’t care. I sleep well at night knowing that. Poirier is very good, but Islam will outclass him.
Islam has the wrestling, the grappling, the strength, the size, and I’m telling you, Islam will finish him.
Poirier may not win UFC 302, but he’s had a brilliant UFC career. He’s a former interim champion who’s provided several of the sport’s most iconic moments, including Conor McGregor’s first knockout loss. The only thing he hasn’t done during his long tenure in the UFC is win the undisputed belt. He’ll have to do that at UFC 302!
