Islam Makhachev Criticizes UFC’s BMF Title: “A Meaningless Belt”
“I Don’t Want to Upset People”
Islam Makhachev has unleashed severe criticism towards UFC’s BMF title. The contenders for the BMF title, Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway, are set to clash at UFC 300 in April. Makhachev anticipated a title defense against Gaethje, but instead, Gaethje was booked against Holloway, leaving Makhachev perplexed.
Uncertain Future for Makhachev
Following two consecutive title defenses against Alexander Volkanovski, Makhachev’s next steps remain uncertain, though a bout against Dustin Poirier has been rumored in recent weeks.
“I don’t want to upset people, but it’s a meaningless match for a meaningless belt. No one gains anything from this match. I have three guys, Arman Tsarukyan, Charles Oliveira, and Gaethje, but Tsarukyan and Oliveira I have already won over. Then only Gaethje remains, he deserves to fight for the title. He has performed in his last two fights. For Holloway, there is a new champion in Ilia Topuria to challenge. But instead, UFC chose to do Gaethje vs. Holloway. I don’t understand, for me, this fight is nothing, but for the fans, it will be a good match.” – Islam Makhachev
