Conor McGregor’s Journey to His First Rolex
McGregor’s Humble Beginnings: From Fakes to Real Gold
UFC superstar Conor McGregor has become one of the most successful athletes of all time and undoubtedly the most successful MMA fighter in history, amassing a fortune worth billions. However, the path to wealth for “The Notorious” was not always paved with gold. In a revealing interview, McGregor shares his early days of wearing fake watches to impress, until reaching the pinnacle of his division rewarded him with a genuine gold Rolex.
“Before everything, I wore fakes,” McGregor disclosed in an interview with GQ Sports. “I strutted around satisfied with my imitations. Funnily enough, my first real watch was a gift following UFC Dublin in 2014, from then-UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta. He gifted me a gold Rolex Sky Dweller.”
The gift came after a triumphant victory at UFC Dublin, where McGregor secured a belt with a first-round knockout, marking the event as a resounding success. A dinner with the Fertitta family followed, where he was presented with the Rolex watch.

Before embarking on his MMA career, McGregor worked as a plumber and received support from his longtime partner Dee Devlin during his unemployment phase. Making a spectacular octagon debut in 2013 by finishing Marcus Brimage, McGregor went on to accumulate victories and two world championship belts. His career peaked with a super fight against Floyd Mayweather, leading to his highest payday and an ever-growing fortune through various successful business ventures. The former double champion is expected to make a comeback later this year after a hiatus of over two years.
