Dustin Poirier Eyes UFC 300 for Comeback, Ponders Trilogy with Gaethje

Poirier Considers Historic UFC 300 Card for Octagon Return, Reflects on Lightweight Division Dynamics

Former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier is contemplating his return to the UFC octagon, with the landmark UFC 300 event in April 2024 being a potential stage for his comeback. Poirier, currently holding a record of 29-8 in MMA and 21-7 in the UFC, is eyeing an opportunity to be part of this historic card, having missed out on UFC 200.

Poirier’s last appearance was at UFC 291 in July, where he suffered a second-round knockout loss to Justin Gaethje for the “BMF” title. As he prepares for his return, Poirier is focused on staying in shape and is open to exciting matchups, particularly a trilogy fight with Gaethje. With their series tied at 1-1, Poirier is intrigued by the prospect of a rubber match, possibly at UFC 300, though he acknowledges Gaethje’s potential reluctance if a title shot is on the line.

In the lightweight division, the landscape is bustling with activity. Islam Makhachev currently holds the championship, with contenders like Gaethje and Charles Oliveira vying for the title. Meanwhile, fighters such as Beneil Dariush, Arman Tsarukyan, Bobby Green, and Dan Hooker are gearing up for significant bouts at UFC Austin in December.

Poirier, who debuted in the UFC at UFC 125, sees himself as a consistent top-10, top-five fighter in the lightweight division, a status he’s maintained over the past decade. Known for his exciting fights and significant achievements like interim gold, fighting for the undisputed title twice, and two finishes of Conor McGregor, Poirier remains a key player in the lightweight puzzle.

As he looks forward to his 30th fight in the UFC, Poirier is committed to continuing his growth in the sport, staying ready for the next big opportunity, and bringing excitement to the octagon, as he always does.
