Alistair Overeem to Participate in Million Dollar Tournament Without Weight Limits
Alistair Overeem, the Asian martial arts organization ONE Championship’s recently revealed an exciting tournament without weight limits – and none other than UFC veteran Alistair Overeem has shown interest!
Overeem comes most recently from an impressive unanimous decision win over kickboxing legend Badr Hari. The confrontation in October 2022 was Overeem’s first kickboxing match in twelve years and marked the end of a historic trilogy of matches between the participants.
Unfortunately, the result of Overeem’s doping test after the event cast a shadow over the whole thing. He tested positive for an illegal substance, but both Overeem and his team argued that the substance was not performance-enhancing.
Now it looks like the scarred veteran wants to return to ONE Championship and participate in their new Muay Thai tournament – which will not have any weight limits! This according to South China Morning Post, which reports that Overeem has been in contact with the organization regarding the exciting tournament with a million dollars in prize money. Notable is that Overeem weighed in at 112.8 kg before his match against Hari!
“You will see big guys and small guys,” said ONE’s CEO at the press conference before the big event ONE on Prime Video 6. “You will see some really crazy things. (There is no weight limit). The tournament is only for ONE fighters, but we are always trying to recruit new athletes and have several (in the works) that we have not revealed yet. I want to hear what the fans have to say. It will start in March. It will be the biggest tournament in Muay Thai history. It’s very fascinating.”
