Jon Jones Aims to Fight Stipe Miocic at UFC 282: “I’m Ready!”

✔ Jones is staying ready and in shape for the PPV event in Las Vegas

Jon Jones publicly declared his intention to fight Stipe Miocic at UFC 282 in December in response to a fan’s question on Twitter asking when he would return to the octagon. Jones tweeted his response to a fan:

“I’m preparing to fight Stipe December 10 in Las Vegas. Not really sure what’s going on between Stipe and the UFC but I’m ready to compete! I’m going to control what I can and stay in shape.”

It has been quite a while since both Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic have fought. Jones hasn’t competed since February 2020 when he narrowly defeated Dominick Reyes by unanimous decision. After a dispute with Dana White, Jones vacated the light heavyweight title later that year. Jones then announced his intention to shift to heavyweight and has been bulking up ever since. Jones’s current record stands at 20-1 in UFC, where his only defeat is a controversial disqualification loss to Matt Hamill in December 2019.

Miocic last competed in March 2021. He lost in a brutal fashion against Francis Ngannou, losing his UFC heavyweight championship. He currently works as a firefighter in Ohio as well as recently becoming part-owner of a local pizza chain. He has not publicly announced any intention to return to the octagon.

UFC 282 will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on December 10. A light heavyweight title rematch between Jiri Prochazka vs. Glover Teixeira is slated to headline the event. However, if a Jones vs. Miocic fight comes to fruition it could end up headlining over Prochazka vs. Teixeira.

Regardless of whether the Jones vs. Miocic fight happens, it does look probable that Jones will fight against Ngannou early next year. Ngannou’s coach, Eric Nicksick of Xtreme Couture, reported that a UFC executive said that the promotion is “1 million percent” behind making the fight happen.
