Jake Paul hints at MMA debut soon: “I’ll go to AKA”
Jake Paul could make his MMA debut sooner than expected – if he masters the one skill he feels he’s lacking!
“The Problem Child” Paul has taken the boxing world by storm since his first fight in August of 2018. He’s managed to knock out all of his opponents, finishing former MMA champions Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley and racking up an undefeated win streak of five straight in the process. The undefeated Youtuber-turned-boxer hasn’t competed since his rematch against Woodley in December of last year, when he knocked “The Chosen One” out cold with a heavy right hook in round six.
Since then he’s been booked to take on two different opponents, Tommy Fury and Hasim Rahman Jr respectively. However, both fights were cancelled for different reasons. Paul will instead face off against UFC legend Anderson Silva in October. If he manages to defeat “The Spider” Silva, he hopes to make his MMA debut soon – something he has hinted at for a while.
“I’ve got an announcement coming soon,” Paul said on the BS w/ Jake Paul podcast. “I can just tease that I’m working with a big organization right now on a whole thing in MMA that also has to do with me fighting and we’re gonna have an announcement soon. I want to do it.”
Paul started wrestling as a child and has also trained in jiu-jitsu previously. The only thing missing from his martial arts repertoire is, according to him, the kicks. “The Problem Child” wants to work on his kicks under the tutelage of American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) coach Javier Mendez, who has trained most notably Khabib Nurmagomedov. Paul’s long awaited MMA debut could happen sooner than expected!
“Javier Mendez said he would train me. So I’ll go to AKA”, Paul continued. “I’ll probably need like a year, year and a half to get the kicks down. I already know jiu-jitsu … I wanna be able to do everything in there. At least checking kicks. I know how to wrestle already.”
