Police comment on UFC star Darren Till’s arrest in Stockholm!
UFC star Darren Till was arrested by police after driving drunk in Stockholm, Sweden. According to Swedish newspaper Expressen, the incident took place on July 31 and “The Gorilla” Till admitted in a police interrogation that he drove drunk, even though he first claimed that it was his fellow passenger who drove the car.
Till has recently spent a lot of time in the Swedish capital where he trains at Allstars Training Center with Swedish breakout star Khamzat Chimaev. 29-year-old Till is trying to get back on track after only winning one of his last five UFC bouts. “The Gorilla” Till has not competed for nearly a year and was last finished by Derek Brunson, his second loss in a row. He was scheduled to compete at UFC London on July 23 as he once again was matched against Jack Hermansson. Till withdrew from the middleweight bout due to an undisclosed injury and was later replaced by Chris Curtis.
Less than a week after UFC London, Swedish police spotted a car driving at high speed in central Stockholm. Till and a woman were in the car and according to the police report, the UFC star was “noticeably intoxicated”. The police also stated that the British MMA fighter was “agitated and did not want anything to do with the police patrol” and that he told the police that the incident could ruin his UFC career. Till took a breathalyzer test that showed he had three times the legal limit. Although Till first claimed that it was the woman who drove the car, he later admitted to drunk driving.
Despite many recent setbacks, Till has been positive regarding his UFC career. He is training with Khamzat ahead of the Swede’s upcoming fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 279 on September 10 and is looking make a comeback as soon as possible.
“We’re a few weeks in to getting back,” Darren Till told ESPN. “I’m like, in camp helping [Khamzat Chimaev prepare for Nate Diaz], but I’m in camp for myself to come back… The body’s never 100%, but I’m coming back, what I used to be like, healthy and fit and ready to get a world title, get some wins in. Massive fight against one of the best strikers in the division… I’d say in a few months time, I’ll be ready. I want to have two fights by the end of this year. Two fights, then next year’s a big year. The comeback is on.”
