Francis Ngannou Will Only Resign with the UFC Under One Condition!
Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is open to renewing his contract with the UFC – but only if they meet his requirements for a superfight against Tyson Fury!
Ngannou has ended up in a contract dispute with the UFC, which stems from his dissatisfaction with his pay. “The Predator” Ngannou is in the final stages of his current UFC contract but got his contract extended when he defended his heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane during UFC 270 in January.
Since then, Ngannou has undergone extensive knee surgery that will keep him away from the Octagon for the rest of the year. In December of this year, Ngannou’s UFC contract will expire and he will have the opportunity to explore other possibilities.
Ngannou has been open with his intentions to take a fight against the heavyweight champion in boxing Tyson Fury. Whether the UFC is in the picture or not, Ngannou says that the fight will take place. However, he says he would prefer to agree with the UFC so that he can continue to compete in the Octagon thereafter.
“The Tyson Fury match must be part of the discussion,” Ngannou said as he appeared on The MMA Hour on Monday with Ariel Helwani.
It is not an option. It must be part of the discussion, because if it is not part of the discussion, it will never be. If I sign another contract now, basically the same type of contract, I’m done. It never happens. So we have to find a way to implement the [Tyson Fury fight] in a contract.
Despite all the problems with the UFC surrounding the re-negotiations, Ngannou still sees a future with the promotion and many exciting match-ups in the octagon. He mentions, among other things, a third fight against the former UFC champion Stipe Miocic and a bout against the former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is interesting.
– I think the UFC is a good organization and I want to continue fighting, Ngannou continued. Tyson Fury is not my last fight. I want to keep fighting. After Tyson Fury, there are still many match-ups, including the Jon Jones fight and the Stipe trilogy.
– There are big fights in the UFC, and I would really like that to happen. I would really like us to agree. Yes, I can get to the Tyson Fury fight on my own, but what happens after that? I would like to keep fighting. I would like us to agree.
