UFC 263: Adesanya vs. Vettori 2

On June 12, it’s time for UFC 263: Adesanya vs. Vettori 2 which will take place at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

It’s a star – studded event with middleweight champion Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya defends his belt in a rematch against Marvin “The Italian Dream” Vettori in the main event.

Their first fight took place in April 2018 and was Adesanya’s second UFC bout. It was a fight that went back and forth but in the end it was “The Last Stylebender” who managed to take home the victory according to the judges via a split decision.

One who did not agree with the scorecards was Vettori who even today believes that he won the match and sees himself holding a victory over Adesanya. Vettori has gone undefeated after their meeting and has amassed a winning streak of five fights in a row. We last saw him defeat Kevin Holland in April this year.

In the co-main bout, we get to see another high-profile rematch, where flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo takes on Brandon Moreno. They met earlier in December last year and the fight ended in a draw.

Moreno surprised many in their previous fight. Immediately after the final round, UFC president Dana White announced that it was the best title fight in flyweight division.

UFC 263 fight card

In the welterweight division, superstar Nate Diaz is back in the octagon and will face the third-ranked Leon “Rocky” Edwards. It will be a historic fight as the bout is planned for five rounds despite not being a title fight or main event.

Edwards has won eight straight fights after losing to current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. After a long time away from the octagon due to covid-19, he made his comeback against Belal Muhammad in March earlier this year.

“Rocky” seemed to be heading for a sure victory but unfortunately the fight ended abruptly when he accidentally poked Muhammad in the eye and the fight was stopped – no contest.
