Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier planning rematch – Outside the UFC!

"No weigh ins. Open weight, unified rules..."

With or without the UFC’s approval, it seems that Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier are working on a rematch. The two have recently had disputes with the UFC regarding either payment or unagreed upon terms regarding opponents.

After a spat with UFC president Dana White, where McGregor released private conversations with the UFC president, the Irish superstar took to social media to openly challenge Poirier to a charity rematch outside the UFC.

“Hey bro! You want to do an MMA charity fight? Zero to do with the ufc,” McGregor wrote openly on Twitter. “I will donate half a mill towards your charity for it. Sell it on ppv or work a tv deal and we work out other charities that are close to my heart also. I am engaged in many. Strictly a charity ‘exhibition'”

“December 12th in the Point depot, Ireland,” He then specified. “No weigh ins. Open weight, unified rules. I will arrange all travel fare for you and family. McGregor Sports and Entertainment MMA, in association with The Good Fight Foundation. Charity Mixed Martial Arts!”

Poirier and McGregor met at UFC 178 in September 2014 in the latter’s fourth fight in the UFC. This was while McGregor was still undefeated in the UFC, and he talked a big game before the fight- McGregor would end up backing up his words, as he delivered on his promise of a first round knockout of Poirier.

The UFC were targeting a bout between Poirier and former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson. However Poirier and the promotion couldn’t come to terms regarding payment, and the bout fell through.
