UFC targeting Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz BMF rematch

After a somewhat anticlimactic ending to their first bout, Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz may very well be heading into a rematch. A report from TMZ today indicated that the UFC are working on a second bout between the two fan favourites, something ESPN later confirmed with UFC president Dana White. The bout is targeted for UFC 256, which takes place on December 12th. However that date is not certain, Masvidal vs Diaz 2 may very well go down in January instead. While in the works, the bout is not signed, however.

Masvidal and Diaz first fought at UFC 244, featuring the inaugural UFC BMF title. It was an exciting bout, though while Diaz had his moments, Masvidal took the lead, dropping and later opening up two huge cuts on his opponent. Despite being a five round main event the bout was stopped due to doctor stoppage on account of Diaz’ cuts. The Stockton native protested the stoppage, but Masvidal was awarded the BMF title.

Since then Masvidal went on to challenge for the UFC welterweight title, held by Kamaru Usman. The fight was, however, not the initial booking, as original title contender Gilbert Burns was forced out of the title bout due to contracting Covid-19. On less than a weeks notice, Masvidal came into the fight with a lot of momentum, but would get shut down by Usman, losing a unanimous decision.

Diaz has not fought since UFC 244, and just twice since 2016. He did, however voice his desire for a rematch with Masvidal following the end to their first fight.

Who wins the rematch: Jorge Masvidal or Nate Diaz?
