BREAKING: Mike Tyson to make boxing comeback against former champ

Two legends of boxing will collide as Mike Tyson finally makes his comeback

It’s official: Mike Tyson will comeback to boxing for an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr. The two boxing legends will collide at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, September 12th. Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports first reported the news, later picked up by several other outlets. It will be an exhibition bout contested over eight rounds. The event will apparently feature a preliminary card with MMA fighters taking on boxers, as of now there is not more information on these fights.

“Big news: (Mike Tyson) is coming back,” Iole wrote. “He will fight (Roy Jones Jr.) in an eight-round exhibition match. Heard there will be boxer vs MMA fighters on undercard. Looks like it will be in Cali. Don’t have the date yet.”

Iole then added clarification regarding the bout itself. The exhibition bout featuring larger gloves, presumably 12 or 14 ounce.

“Tyson-Jones fight will be EXHIBITION bout with bigger gloves, perhaps 12 ounces. They met with Andy Foster oF CSAC on Zoom recently. They aren’t going to try for KOs. Sept. 12 at Dignity Health Sports Park.”

Since Tyson announced his return to boxing earlier this year, fighters from the likes of Tito Ortiz to Shannon Briggs have been reported as serving as opposition. Now, however, it seems that Jones Jr will be standing across Tyson when the latter returns. Tyson’s last boxing bout was in 2005 at 38 years old, in a TKO loss to Kevin McBride. Jones Jr, on the other hand, last competed in 2018, defeating Scott Sigmon via decision.
