Colby Covington rips “pathetic” Jorge Masvidal for wanting title rematch

"He lost every round, dude you got destroyed..."

Kamaru Usman remains atop the welterweight rankings as UFC champion following UFC 252. Usman successfully defended his title against short notice replacement Jorge Masvidal, who wants a rematch – Something divisional antagonist Colby Covington is now blasting him for.

Masvidal and Covington are former friends turned enemies. They trained together for many years at ATT, constantly sticking up for each other, but that changed as their career trajectories did as well. Now they are bitter rivals with nothing good to say about each other.

“It’s pathetic that he’s out there asking for a rematch,” Covington told MMA Junkie. “He lost every round, dude you got destroyed. I won three rounds off ‘Marty Fakenewsman,’ you’re not on my level Jorge and you know that. Deep down inside, you could say whatever you want to the media and talk all that (expletive) before, guess what (expletive), I’m not at American Top Team no more, we could do this anytime.”

Masvidal took the title fight with Usman on just six days notice. While he managed to stick it out until the final bell, it was a completely one-sided affair that Usman dominated.

Last year Covington challenged Usman for the title at UFC 245 in an unexpectedly excellent title fight. The two went head-to-head, back-and-forth, pushing each other to the limit. In the  fifth and final round Usman connected with a haymaker that dropped Covington – Who was already suffering a broken jaw.

While hard to compare the two title bouts with Usman, that didn’t stop Covington from doing so, blasting both UFC 252 headliners.

“I wanted to watch, but then I fell asleep,” Covington said. “It was so boring, it was a hug-fest and they were playing footsie the whole time. That wasn’t a real fight. ‘Marty Fakenewsman’s’ stock went way down in that fight. He’s definitely the most boring fighter in the history of the UFC and we found out just what I said the whole time, ‘Street Judas’ Masvidal is all hype. He had his 15 seconds of fame, his 15 seconds of fame are up. He hit lightning in a bottle, but just we found out what everyone knew. He’s not a well-rounded fighter, he got exposed.”

Covington has been linked to a bout with rival and former champion Tyron Woodley. Meanwhile, Masvidal is expected to heal up and get on track, though no fight has been announced yet.

Who will be first to get a rematch with Kamaru Usman: Colby Covington or Jorge Masvidal?
