#11 welterweight Geoff Neal can’t get a fight – Working at steakhouse
Geoff Neal, a top 15 ranked UFC welterweight, has been forced to return to his former work at Texas Steakhouse as the UFC can’t find a fight for him.
The Covid-19 pandemic has undoubtedly changed the day-to-day lives for most people around the world. Many in the United States are facing tough times financially due to some work places not being able to offer the same job conditions as before.
Even UFC fighters have not been able to train and compete in the same extent as before. One fighter who has sadly been deeply affected by these conditions are #11 ranked welterweight Geoff Neal, who has returned to his former work at Texas Steakhouse.
Speaking to James Lynch, Neal described his UFC career as currently being in “purgatory”.
“I tell people I’m in purgatory in my career. I’m ranked No 11, not in the top-10 yet. I don’t have a big following behind me, so everybody that I want to fight doesn’t want to fight me because I’m a big risk. I’m somebody who knocks people out so I’m dangerous for their stock. So I see why they don’t want to accept the fight with me. But it’s still bullish*t, I need to get paid, but I’m just sitting out here waiting,” Neal said.

Despite sitting out, Neal has had idea for potential opponents, saying that he’s called out the likes of Santiago Ponzinibbio and Michael Chiesa – To no avail. Having not competed in the UFC for halv a year, he began taking preemptive measures when the Covid-19 outbreak began to ensure financial stability.
“I actually started working again right before COVID, because I could foresee that I was going to be sitting on the bench for a while, so I needed to start doing something. So I’m actually back working, I started working on Wednesday, I’m actually going home now to get ready for work,” Neal said.
“I’m actually back at Texas Steakhouse, I can’t do Moxies anymore. The two- or three-o’clock on the morning is what kills me. I’m a server right now (at Texas Steakhouse).”
Neal knocked out fan favourite Mike Perry in his latest showing in the octagon. That was the welterweight’s fifth straight win in the UFC, and his impressive resume also includes wins over Belal Muhammad and Frank Camacho.
It’s evident that while the UFC’s current operations have worked for some, all have not been as fortunate.
