Three title fights planned for monster UFC 251 event
UFC 251 is shaping up to be a fantastic card, with the UFC targeting three title fights for the event. As of now, UFC 251 is slated for July 11th on Fight Island, recently revealed as being somewhere in Abu Dhabi.
According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, a featherweight title rematch between newly crowned featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski and former champ Max Holloway is being planned for UFC 251. According to the reports the fight is not yet signed and official. Volkanovski defeated Holloway via unanimous decision to claim the featherweight title. That snapped Holloway’s 14 fight win streak at featherweight.

That’s not the only title fight the UFC are targeting for UFC 251, however. Additionally, the UFC are targeting a welterweight title bout for defending champion Kamaru Usman. Originally he was to face Jorge Masvidal, but after negotiations went south, streaking Brazilian Gilbert Burns is currently the front runner. Usman made his first title defence at UFC 245, TKO’ing Colby Covington. Burns is currently on a six fight winning streak, most recently dominating former champ Tyron Woodley en route to a clear-cut unanimous decision.
Also Petr Yan and Jose Aldo are expected to compete for the vacant bantamweight title. The title was vacated by Henry Cejudo at UFC 249 last month. Aldo made his bantamweight debut earlier this year, losing a closely contested and controversial decision to Marlon Moraes. Yan is one of Russia’s hottest prospects, with six straight wins behind him, including victories over Urijah Faber and Jimmie Rivera.
