REPORT: Conor McGregor gets offered title shot
“Anything kan happen in MMA” is a classic, cliché quote. However, that truly is the case, as it seems as if a welterweight title shot has been offered to Conor McGregor.
The shocking reports came surprisingly, directly from Ali Abdelaziz, manager to welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Previously Jorge Masvidal was slated to challenge for the title, though he seems to have focused his efforts on securing a rematch with Nate Diaz. Masvidal defeated Diaz via TKO due to doctor stoppage at their BMF title fight at UFC 244 last year.
Masvidal’s disinterest seems to have been enough for Abdelaziz and Usman to look elsewhere for the next challenger.

“It looks like #1 contender wants to fight Nate Diaz now,” Abdelaziz wrote on social media. “Good for him. (Conor McGregor) hey you want a title shot? Come to daddy (Kamaru Usman) will give you one and he promise first 2 rounds without takedowns only slaps.”
ESPN MMA reporter Brett Okamoto cleared up the message, reporting that Abdelaziz and Usman would ask the UFC to offer McGregor a title shot if Masvidal moves on to other endeavours.
“Per manager Ali Abdelaziz, if Jorge Masvidal were to ask UFC for a Nate Diaz BMF rematch, over a Kamaru Usman title fight, they’d ask the UFC to offer the 170 pound title shot to Conor McGregor, for a chance to win his third title.”
Usman defended his title for the first time at UFC 245 last year, defeating rival Colby Covington in an exciting affair. Since then Usman has been on the sidelines, awaiting the next challenger.
McGregor returned to MMA in January 2020, in the welterweight division, defeating Donald Cerrone via first round TKO. He has since expressed a desire to compete for the UFC welterweight title, and that opportunity may very well have presented itself.
