Khabib Nurmagomedov’s father Abdulmanap in coma
Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, father to Khabib Nurmagomedov, is in a coma and is in critical condition.
There is no greater pain than that suffering which affects a loved one. Even more so if that loved one is special for many reasons. UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is trained by his father Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who is also his mentor, and who has unfortunately slipped into a coma. According to sources to Russian outlet RT Sport, Nurmagomedov Sr fell in in April. He was at first taken in to a hospital in his native Dagestan with what suspected pneumonia, but was later transported to a military hospital in the Russian capital Moscow.

“Abdulmanap is in a bad condition, he’s in Moscow and in a coma,” a source said to Sport Express on Wednesday, via RT sport. “They didn’t treat him properly in Dagestan, and some complications arose. They flew him to Moscow, where he is now in a military hospital. He’s on his own there, they won’t allow family [to visit]”.
The UFC lightweight champion is extremely close to his father, who has also trained and mentored many of the best combat sports athletes in Dagestan. Nurmagomedov Sr was at his sons most recent title defence at UFC 242. That was the first time that the father and son pair had been at a UFC fight together.
Even bitter rival Conor McGregor, offered his support and condolences once the news broke.
“Praying for the recovery of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. A man responsible for more World champions, across multiple fighting disciplines, than we even know. A true martial genius! Very saddened upon hearing this news tonight. Praying for the Nurmagomedov family at this time”
