“Cowboy” Cerrone releases statement following fourth straight loss
A loss in the UFC can be devastating for a high-level fighter. Now, after suffering his fourth loss in a row at UFC 249, “Cowboy” Cerrone released a statement on his career to his fans.
MMA fans the world over rejoiced this weekend, as UFC 249 took place in Jacksonville, Florida, and delivered a slew of entertaining fights. Aside from a stacked main card, even the preliminary card delivered fun bouts featuring big names and former champions. The likes of Fabricio Werdum, Michelle Waterson and Vicente Luque competed on the under card. Anthony Pettis defeated Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a long-awaited rematch in the featured preliminary bout. Cerrone was defeated via unanimous decision, his fourth straight loss, leading to the fan favourite releasing a statement on his career.
After UFC 249 “Cowboy” took to social media to release a statement, making it clear that he’s nowhere near contemplating retirement despite the adversity he’s going through.
“I came to throw down and do what I love!” Cerrone wrote on Instagram post-fight. “I had a blast and I’m not going anywhere. See y’all again soon.”

The loss to Pettis was hardly a one-sided affair. Cerrone certainly had his moments, and there were fans and pundits who felt he deserved the nod. “Cowboy” has certainly faced much of the best competition in the lighter weight classes as of late, though. His previous three losses have come against Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje (who competed for the interim lightweight title in the UFC 249 main event), as well as former double champ Conor McGregor.
Despite this loss, Cerrone remains one of the most popular fighters in the UFC, a true fan favourite who is beloved for his fighting style and mentality. It stands to reason that “Cowboy” will continue to compete in the UFC in the near future, for as long as his heart is in it.
