UFC announces main events for May 13th & 19th events
Yesterday the UFC officially announced three events for the month of May, now the main headliners have also been revealed.
Aside from UFC 249, which goes down on May 9th in Jacksonville, Florida, two additional events will take place at the same venue on the 13th and 19th of the same month. While, as expected, Tony Ferguson vs Justin Gaethje will serve as the main event for UFC 249, the headliners of the following events were also announced recently.
The light heavyweight battle between Anthony Smith and Glover Teixeira has been rescheduled to headline the yet-unnamed UFC event on May 13th. Smith has not fought since submitting Alexander Gustafsson in June of last year. That brought Smith back into the win column after a lacklustre loss to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones at UFC 235. Brazilian veteran Teixeira is currently experiencing a career resurgence at 40. He currently sits on a three fight winning streak, including wins over Nikita Krylov and Ion Cutelaba.

The May 19th event will see heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris face off in the headlining bout. The two were supposed to meet in the main event at UFC Washington DC, but Harris was force to withdraw due to personal reasons. He was replaced by Jairziniho Rozenstruik who went on to defeat Overeem via fifth round TKO. Harris holds two straight wins via T/KO, while Overeem has won two out of his last three fights via the same method.
Though not yet announced, the UFC are expected to hold more events in the near future. UFC president Dana White claims to have secured a private island for international fighters to compete at. This island is rumoured to have a dark past, though those reports are unconfirmed.
