There’s a delicate interplay between MMA fighters and reporters. Keeping the balance between professionalism, fan and friend can be tough at times. On other occasions, it’s about embracing the moment completely, something recently seen online.
Dillon Danis, well known for playing the heel in feuds with fighters, fired shots at ESPN’s Ariel Helwani – Who was not having it.
Danis posted a video on Twitter of a street fight, writing that he would do something similar when he encounters Helwani.

“Next time I see Ariel Helwani,” Danis Wrote.
Danis’ striking has been heavily criticised, though, as has the level of competition that he has received in Bellator. Considering that He is an experienced BJJ-artist who has competed at a high level for many years, and also trained alongside Conor McGregor for quite some time, many fans and pundits feel that Danis has been given all too favourable match ups.
Helwani then gave the perfect response, echoing the sentiment of many fans online.
“You connecting with a punch let alone dropping someone? Well, I guess there really could be a first time for everything.” Helwani responded.

Danis most recently fought in June of last year at Bellator 222, where he submitted Max Humphrey in the first round. As of now he doesn’t have a fight booked, but is expected to continue to compete in Bellator. He has been feuding with, amongst others, former ONE Champion Ben Askren and YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul. However when it comes to the feud with Helwani he might be wise to let it go.
Helwani is one of the most prominent and respected journalists in MMA history. He has won “Journalist of the Year” several times at the World MMA Awards and remains one of the biggest names in the business.
