UFC targeting new event on May 9th - Ferguson vs Gaethje rebooked! -

May 9th is a date for all MMA fans around the world to mark down, as the UFC are now targeting an event on that date.

MMA fans rejoice, it seems there are more fights looming over the horizon. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, who has been close to the UFC the entire time uring the ongoing pandemic, recently sprng the news. According to Okamoto, who spoke with UFC president Dana White, the UFC are targeting several bouts for a May 9th event, though the exact location is still to be determined.

“BREAKING: UFC president Dana White says the company has turned its focus to hosting its next event on May 9 at a location TBD. He remains adamant the company will get back on schedule, and barring outside factors, intends to hold the card on May 9,” Okamoto wrote on Twitter.

Based on what Okamoto posted, several title bouts are in the works. The biggest fight to be announced is undoubtedly the re-booking of Tony Ferguson vs Justin Gaethje – A somewhat surprising move. Many fans have been waiting to see Ferguson face Khabib Nurmagomedov, though that potential match up risks being defunct depending on how Ferguson vs Gaethje goes.

Aside from that bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo is slated to defend his title against former champion Dominick Cruz. Cejudo has taken the lighter weight classes by storm, winning both flyweight and bantamweight titles, while Cruz, though highly respected due to past endeavours in the UFC and WEC, hasn’t fought since December 2916.

Women’s featherweight champion Amanda Nunes is expected to make her first title defence against Canadian challenger Felicia Spencer, and heavyweight KO artists Francis Ngannou and Jarizinho Rozenstruik will collide.
