New arrest video shows Jon Jones with gun, liquor & cannabis in car

Recently UFC lightweight champion Jon Jones once again found himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons: An arrest with accompanying video. Police were called to an area of Albuquerque due to reports of gunshots. Near the scene police found Jones in his car, who later confessed to having driven while intoxicated with intent to drive again. He was arrested for DWI, for the second time, a firearm and liquor bottle was also found in his car.

Now a video from a new angle has been released, and it unfortunately doesn’t paint a particularly good picture. Aside from the already known gun and liquor bottle (Jorge Masvidal’s own brand of Mezcal), cannabis is also found strewn about in the car, and Jones’ first reaction with the police and his arrest is seen in the video as well. The video can be seen bellow (via MMA Fighting)

This is sadly not the first arrest video of Jones that has reached the internet. He has previously been arrested for a DUI and a hit-and-run incident as well, in which a pregnant woman was involved.

Jones addressed the MMA community shortly after his arrest, expressing remorse for his actions.

“While we all work to understand and cope with stress and uncertainties surrounding the current state of our world, I want to express how truly disappointed I am that I have become the source of a negative headline again, especially during these trying times,” Jones expressed in a statement. “I am disappointed for letting down the people I care about the most – my family, friends and my fans. This morning I entered into a plea deal with the Albuquerque DA’s office. I accept full responsibility for my actions, and I know that I have some personal work to do, which involves the unhealthy relationship I have with alcohol.”

While damning, and hardly his first offence, Jones avoided jail time for the incident. He received one year of supervised probation, 96 hours of community custody (house arrest), and a minimum 90 days of outpatient therapy – Via Skype due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The general consensus from the MMA community has been disappointment. Jones excels inside the cage and is one of the greatest fighters of all time, however his numerous transgressions have undoubtedly tainted his legacy.
