UFC boss Dana White to host UFC fights on private island
Desperate times call for desperate measures. As the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic continues to affect sports leagues of the world, the UFC may have found a solution: A private island.
The sports world has been hit hard by the Coronavirus. Despite most MMA promotions around the globe being forced to cease competitions, the UFC stands apart from the rest. UFC president Dana White has been at the forefront during the ongoing pandemic, reassuring fans that the much-anticipated event UFC 249 will take place. Tonight it was announced that Justin Gaethje will replace Khabib Nurmagomedov, and face Tony Ferguson for the interim lightweight title.
During this announcement, he also revealed that he i working on securing a private island for international fighters to be able to compete at.
“I locked this venue (that will host UFC 249) for two months,” White told TMZ on Monday. “I have this venue for two months, and we’re setting up shop here. We’re going to be pumping out fights every week. I’m also a day or two away from securing a private island. I have a private island that I’ve secured. We’re getting the infrastructure put in now, so I’m going to start doing the international fights, too, with the international fighters.

“I’m not going to be able to get the international fighters, all of them into the U.S., so I have a private island. I’m going to start flying them all into the private island and start doing international fights from there. So as of April 18, the UFC is back up and running. … We have all our own planes and everything we’re going to fly into the island with the fighters.”
White maintains that the people involved will be tested for Covid-19, in an effort to help suppress the spread of the contagion. He did not disclose, however, where exactly UFC 249 will take place. While the yet unspecified private island is expected to host future events, the location of UFC 249 has not been announced. There are rumours and reports of the event going down on the west coast of the United States, though specifics are scarce.
If White managed to uphold these plans then the UFC will be the only major combat sports league in operation soon.
