Joe Rogan has a CRAZY idea that just might save UFC 249
Amidst fears that UFC 249 might be cancelled, UFC commentator Joe Rogan has an idea on how to save the event.
While many have been downplaying the severity of the Covid-19 outbreak, it now seems all the more clear that it is serious. The United States now has over 100,000 confirmed cases, and more than any other country in the world. This has impacted sports leagues such as the NFL, NBA, and of course: The UFC. As the promotion was forced to cancel three UFC events, fans are worried. Despite concerns, UFC president Dana White maintains that UFC 249, pitting rival Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson against each other for the lightweight title, will happen. Now UFC commentator Joe Rogan has an idea that could very well save UFC 249.
In the latest instalment of the podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, the aforementioned commentator discussed his suggestion on how to save UFC 249 – And it involves a battleship.

“They’re talking about doing a UFC…they don’t know where it’s gonna be for Khabib vs Ferguson. They’re talking about doing that somewhere, somewhere in another country. You know I told Dana [White] you should do it on a battleship, just do it on a battleship on international waters, fly everybody in on helicopters!
“You don’t need very many people, you just need the fighters. I mean, I don’t even know if they’re gonna have an under card.”
This outlandish idea has been echoed by many fans, who began joking about hosting UFC 249 on a ship since the Covid-19 outbreak started. This let to people using the term #fightboat when talking about the idea, which was repeatedly made into memes.
There are many challenges facing 249. As of now it is highly unlikely that the UFC will be able to hold the event in the USA, as most states have banned public gatherings and events. Even with empty arenas and no fans on site, the amount of staff and production crew that would be required would most likely exceed the public health regulations. Not only that, but Nurmagomedov is most likely stranded in Russia, as the country has closed its borders for travel in and out of the nation.
While things may look grim, let’s not forget the statement that is just as cliché as it is true: Anything can happen in MMA.
