The UFC release statement on Jon Jones’ arrest

"UFC is aware of the situation..."

Whether the sport of MMA is ongoing or not, there are always news stories popping up – For better or worse. As Jon Jones once more finds himself in trouble with the law, the UFC have now addressed this issue a statement.

Early yesterday morning Jones was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI), as well as negligent use of a firearm. Unforunately this is hardly Jones’ first run-in with the law, as he has been arrested on two previous occasions for a DWI and a hit-and-run incident.

In a recent statement made to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, the UFC confirmed knowlege of the situation.

Other stories:

“UFC is aware of the situation regarding Jon Jones in Albuquerque early this morning,” the UFC statement regarding Jon Jones read. “The organization has been in contact with Jones’ management team and is currently gathering additional information.”

While brilliant and one of the greatest of all time inside the cage, Jones has a series of transgressions outside of it. The hit-and-run incident of 2015 involved a pregnant woman who Jones left at the scene. He then returned to collect cash and drug paraphernalia from his car before fleeing the scene once again. In 2014 he was involved in a violent altercation with arch rival Daniel Cormier, in which a fight broke out at a press conference leading up to their UFC 178 bout.

Jones has also been stripped of his title on three separate occasions – Without actually losing a title bout. All have been related to either testing positive for prohibited substances or for arrests. While Jones being stripped of his title would not be unheard of, it would certianly be unfortunate.
