UFC Brasilia forced to go down behind closed doors – Due to Corona virus
As predicted, the deadly Corona virus continues to affect the world and, by extension, sporting events. France has closed football/soccer arenas to fans, following the Italian government, and ONE Championship have decided for all of the promotions events in the near future to occur behind closed doors, to minimise the risk of spreading the contagion. Now the UFC have been directly affected by the Corona virus, as this weekend’s UFC Brasilia will now go down without an audience in the arena.
This follows a governmental ban on large gatherings, cemented by Brasilia’s mayor Ibaneis Rocha. UFC Brasilia is only the latest event to be affected by the Corona virus. According to Brazilian outlet Combate, the UFC decided for the event to continue behind closed doors.

MMAnytt caught up with Danish-Bosnian UFC lightweight Damir Hadzovic, who faces local favourite Renato Moicano at UFC Brasilia.
“It will be like a gym fight, you know,” Hadzovic told MMAnytt. “Like, ‘Let’s go down to the basement and settle this, you’ve got your coaches, I’ve got mine. just to see!’ You know, it…I don’t know if it favours me, but it’s good for me because he (Renato Moicano) can’t get any energy from the audience. I’m glad they closed it to audiences, for hygiene purposes… with 16,000 people (in the arena), I don’t want to take any risk of bringing the disease back home to my daughter and wife. So I’m glad they closed the arena to the public, I feel safer now, I swear!”
It seems that most parties involved understand the seriousness of the situation regarding the Corona virus, and are willing to take the steps needed to contain the disease as well as possible.
