BJ Penn flips truck in auto accident – Investigated for DUI
Unfortunately, once again, former UFC champ BJ Penn is in the headlines for all the wrong reasons, this time a DUI may be involved. The pat few years have not been kind to Penn, who now holds the record for the longest losing streak in UFC history with seven straight losses. Perhaps more damning than that, however, are his violent controversies outside of the cage.
Last weekend, according to Big Island Now, Penn was involved in an auto accident in his home state of Hawaii, in which the truck he drove flipped over. The former champ was transported to Hilo Medical Center. Penn was the only passenger in the truck, which was the only vehicle involved in the accident. Police who arrived on scene did not administer a blood-alcohol test, but are investigating Penn for a DUI. Unfortunately, many of Penn’s recent controversies have seen him heavily intoxicated.

Last year Penn was involved in a domestic violence dispute, as well as three separate street fights, all of which were caught on camera. One of the videos showed Penn getting brutally knocked out in a parking lot, which was the straw that broke the camels back for UFC president Dana White. That incident was what prompted White to cut Penn from the UFC.
“He won’t fight again. That’s it. That’s a wrap,” White told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. “It’s not even that this was the last straw. I didn’t love him continuing to fight anyway. But when you have the relationship that he and I have, and he’s getting me on the phone begging me for another fight, begging me for another opportunity, it’s hard for me to turn him down.
“But after what I saw on that video, B.J. needs to focus on his personal life and get himself together before he thinks about fighting again.”
It’s clear that Penn is going through a rough patch in life. Alcohol abuse may be involved in some of these incidents, but regardless it’s clear that Penn may need assistance to get his life back on track.
