Dustin Poirier wants fight with Nate Diaz in July
UFC president Dana White recently announced that UFC BMF title holder Jorge Masvidal will challenge welterweight champion Kamaru Usman for the title. While an event or date hasn’t yet been specified, the bout will take place during international fight week in Las Vegas, in July of this year. As of now UFC 252 on July 11th is a likely event for the bout. Per a fan suggestion, former interim lightweight champ Dustin Poirier would like to face Stockton’s Nate Diaz in the co-main event.
On Twitter, a fan suggested that Poirier fights Diaz on the same card as Usman vs Masvidal. The former interim champ was quick and to the point, saying he would want the bout with Diaz.
“(Dustin Poirier) vs (Nate) Diaz…co main for Masvidal vs Usman,” the fan pondered openly. “Yes,” was Poiriers response.

Diaz most recently competed at UFC 244, where he and Masvidal fought for the inaugural BMF title in the UFC. After three exciting rounds, a cut on Diaz forced a doctor stoppage, with Masvidal winning the fight via TKO.
The Stockton native was scheduled to face Poirier at UFC 230 in 2018, but the latter was forced out of the bout with injury. Since then, Poirier went on to win the interim lightweight title after defeating Max Holloway via decision. He then challenged Khabib Nurmagomedov in a bid to unify UFC lightweight titles, but was handily beaten via third round submission.
