Floyd Mayweather accused of assault in fan encounter at Miami hotel

“You can get this ass-whooping for free.”

When fans approach sports stars in hope of getting an autograph or picture with them, the results aren’t always as expected. Undefeated world boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr has now been accused of assault after denying a fan to take a selfie with him.

The incident occurred on February 1st, at the Fontainebleau Hilton hotel in Miami, Florida. 32 year old Ricco Kimborough approached Mayweather, who was in the process of leaving the hotel, and asked for a picture with the boxing star. According to the report filed with the Miami Beach police department, Mayweather turned Kimborough down, saying “I can’t even get a good morning first?” Kimborough continued to follow Mayweather and began filming the encounter, while being blocked by the boxers bodyguards. However, Kimborough claims he was “pushed away” by the guards, and the Mayweather shouted “I’ll beat your ass,” prompting the fan to file an assault case. The video was then later obtained by TMZ.

While Mayweather can be heard shouting “You can get this ass-whooping for free,” the encounter seems entirely non violent. Admittedly, not all of the body guards actions can be seen in the video above. However according to the police report all parties involved agree that Mayweather never got physical. The case is now in the hands of the Miami Beach police department, who are handling the case. Though it is highly unlikely that Mayweather will be charged.

As of now Mayweather’s next plans in regards to combat sports are somewhat uncertain. UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has shown interest in fighting Mayweather, wanting special rules. Meanwhile the boxing star has also been in talks with UFC president Dana White. Mayweather retired last year only to backtrack and announce a comeback in 2020. There has also been talk of a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, though nothing that has materilised.
