Conor McGregor's coach has bold claim ahead of UFC 246: "Best I've seen"

Ahead of UFC 246, SBG head coach John Kavanagh has nothing but high praise and expectations for Conor McGregor. While a certain bias is to be expected, Kavanagh insists that that this is the best he’s seen of McGregor.

“Jan 1st, last heavy spar today before going to Vegas,” Kavanagh wrote on Twitter. “Can honestly say this is the best i’ve seen him and i wasn’t sure that was possible to do 6 months ago. You guys are in for a real treat, i’m just glad to have a good seat!”

Judging by what has been posted on media and what’s been heard from team mates, Kavanagh is right about his star fighter. McGregor is certainly in great shape ahead of UFC 246, and hiss training seems to have implemented increased grappling. Many were surprised when it was announced that McGregor’s return fight against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone would be at welterweight, though he certainly looks the part now.

While he is the betting favourite, McGregor cannot expect an easy win against “Cowboy”. McGregor hasn’t fought in the UFC since October 2018, and hasn’t won since November 2016. While Cerrone is coming off back-to-back losses, he has victories in three out of his five latest contests. Those wins include impressive finishes of promising young fighters Alexander Hernandez and Mike Perry, as well as a five round bulldozing of Al Iaquinta.

Perhaps this newer, bigger McGregor truly is better than ever. Only his match against Cerrone can prove anything for sure.
