Johnny Walker calls out Chris Weidman – Gets response

After both suffering tough, first round knockout losses in their last bouts, Johnny Walker and Chris Weidman may be on a collision course

Will light heavyweights Johnny Walker and Chris Weidman meet in the UFC octagon? It seems that it all depends on what direction Wiedman wants to go in. Walker recently took to social media to challenge Weidman, which in turn garnered a response.

As a guest on Ariel Helwani’s MMA show, Weidman made it clear that he isn’t planning on retiring. He also laid out his plans for a return, eyeing a return in February or March of 2020. Walker picked up on this, and called Weidman out.

“Hey Chris Weidman, that’s funny, I also want to fight in February or March! What a coincidence! What date do you prefer? Let’s dance,” Walker wrote on Twitter, challenging Weidman. The former UFC middleweight champion graciously picked up on the call out, but didn’t give a definitive response as to if he is open to the fight or not.

“Hey! Thanks for the call out! I will let you know when I decide what I wanna do next,” Weidman responded.

OTHER NEWS:

Walker burst on to the MMA scene with three straight, first round KO’s in the UFC. He got past established light heavyweights like Khalil Rountree Jr and Misha Cirkunov, earning himself a top 15 ranking. Then, at UFC 244, he faced divisional staple Corey Anderson. Despite being a sizeable betting favourite, Walker was rocked early, getting knocked out in the first round, something he attributes to poor tactics.

Weidman’s career has taken a rough turn, with T/KO losses in five out of his six latest. With a lone submission win over Kelvin Gastelum as his last victory since 2015, the former UFC champ has lost two straight. In his last outing he was knocked out by Dominick Reyes in Weidman’s light heavyweight debut.
