Report: Anthony Pettis vs “Cowboy” Cerrone rematch verbally agreed upon
If the newly posted reports are correct, it seems that Anthony “Showtime” Pettis and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will battle once again. Pettis’ head coach Duke Roufus has now claimed that a rematch is in the works.
“It has been a longtime in the making. The @ufc offered @showtimepettis a rematch with @cowboycerrone,” Roufus stated in a now deleted Instagram post. “Donald & Anthony have professionally reached out personally to one another & have agreed to fight each other. Both guys have given MMA some epic performances fighting all the top fighters in sport. We are just waiting on a date to dance.”
Pettis and “Cowboy” first met at UFC on FOX 6 in 2013. Pettis ended up finishing Cerrone via first round TKO.

While the UFC have not confirmed the fight and the post has been removed, it is a rematch that makes sense. Both Pettis and “Cowboy” are coming off of losses to high profile contenders.
Pettis was most recently active against Nate Diaz at UFC 241, in the formers second UFC appearance at welterweight. Diaz pressure was too much for Pettis, who ended up losing a unanimous decision. He has now alternated wins and losses in his last nine bouts.
Cerrone doesn’t have the best possible fight stats as of late either. Earlier this year he had a three fight winning streak snapped via a TKO loss via doctor stoppage to Tony Ferguson. He then faced Justin Gaethje, and was knocked out in the first round.
Who would win the rematch: Anthony Pettis or “Cowboy” Cerrone?
