Conor McGregor agrees to fight Frankie Edgar & donate purse to charity
A bout between Conor McGregor and Frankie Edgar has been talked about for years. The two were linked to a fight when McGregor was the featherweight champion, but thus far he has never defended any UFC title. Despite Edgars plans to move down to bantamweight, it seems the two may very well collide this year.
It began when McGregor wished Edgar a happy birthday on Twitter, adding “See you in December”

McGregor, allegedly, held up his end of the deal and told UFC president Dana White to go ahead and book the fight. He also wrote that he will give his purse to charity linked to first responders, adding some quick marketing for his own brand of whiskey as well.

Edgar is coming off of a loss to current featherweight champion Max Holloway. The decision loss to Holloway was Edgar’s third failed bid to capture the UFC featherweight title. He currently sits at a 3-2 record in his last five outings, including wins over Cub Swanson and Jeremy Stephens.
McGregor has been fighting to keep his reputation afloat, as controversy has mired his career and life as of late. Not only is he undergoing trial for the infamous pub incident, but he was also recently accused of having his entourage force a woman into a car by a Los Angeles hot spot.
Fans would universally rather see McGregor in the cage as opposed to court, and a bout with Edgar is an intriguing fight that could turn his career around.
