Frankie Edgar to change weight class following UFC 240 loss
At UFC 240 former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar challenged Max Holloway for the featherweight title. It was Edgars third bid to claim the featherweight title since moving down from lightweight, and once again he would come up short. Now he’s changing divisions once again, and making the move to bantamweight, as first reported by ESPN.
“We have already started discussing Frankie’s bantamweight debut,” Edgar’s manager Ali Abdelaziz told ESPN. “We’re hoping it will be at UFC 244 on Nov. 2 at Madison Square Garden, but 100 percent Frankie’s next fight will be at 135 pounds.”
As of now the UFC have not made any official plans regarding Edgar’s bantamweight debut.

Edgar has been undersized for the featherweight division, making his success at lightweight all the more impressive. His last couple years at featherweight have not been quite as successful though, with Edgar going 3-3 in his last six bouts. His losses, however, are against the division’s elite; former champ Jose Aldo, rising phenom Brian Ortega and most recently Holloway. His most recent win was via unanimous decision in a rematch with Cub Swanson.
