UFC release Cris Cyborg from contract: “We’re out of the Cyborg business.”
Negotiations between Cris Cyborg and UFC president Dana White have gone sour. Recently they met backstage following Cyborg’s UFC 240 decision win over Felicia Spencer, and seemed to have reached an agreement in regard to future plans. Now, however, the UFC have cut ties with the former champion, as announced by White in the video above.
“She is free and clear to go to Bellator or any of these other organizations and fight these easy fights that she wants,” White said. “Done. Done deal. I will literally today have my lawyer draft a letter to her team that she is free and clear to go where ever she wants. We’re out of the Cyborg business.”
White claims that he doesn’t have anything against her personally, and that her claims of mistreatment are unfair and relating to comments taken out of context. The UFC boss also says that Cyborg, despite her claims, hasn’t wanted to take the fights offered to her in the promotion.

Cyborg lost her featherweight title to Amanda Nunes last year, and there have been several claims made form both sides regarding the circumstances of the fight not materialising.
“This is a woman that doesn’t want to fight the champion no matter what she says,” White said. “I am giving up my rights to her contract to matching her contract to anything. I’m giving it up. There you go. You’re not being bullied. Nothing like that. I’m going to let you go. If you don’t want to fight Amanda and you don’t want to be here that bad, then why would I want you here?”
Cyborg has also stated on multiple occasions that she has been bullied by the UFC and White. Many of these statements are in relation to older comments made by White at The MMA Awards, comparing her appearance to that of Wanderlei Silva. White also claims t hat these are taken out of context.
“First of all, I never came out and bullied and said anything about Cyborg. I was asked a question about the media. So now for hacks to throw up a 15 second clip of me saying that, it’s completely taken out of context. We talked about this – Cyborg and I – before she came into the UFC…. It is an absolute smoke screen to not face Amanda Nunes.”
According to several reports, Bellator president Scott Coker is interested in signing Cyborg, all that is known is that she wont return to the UFC any time soon.
