Betting tips and fight odds for UFC 239

Theoretically UFC 239 is one of the most exciting events of this year. Jon Jones, Jorge Masvidal, Luke Rockhold & Diego Sanchez – those guys are always fun to watch.

And if you want to increase the thrill from watching MMA, you might consider betting small amounts on particular fights. I believe I found a fight worth betting on.

UFC 239: Luke Rockhold 1.44 – 2.65 Jan Blachowicz

Former UFC & Strikeforce champion, Luke Rockhold is a dangerous kickboxer. He’s well known of his devastating roundhouse kicks to the head and body. Rockhold is a southpaw, hence his back-leg middle kicks are especially dangerous as they land on the liver of orthodox stance fighters.

That being said, Jan Blachowicz is one of the best boxers in the light heavyweights’ roster. He will surely try to close to the distance and land punches on the chin of Rockhold. It’s hard to predict how Luke will handle those – his endurance always was suspicious, but now he moves from 185 lbs division to 205, and Jan isn’t a power puncher.

I think the striking battle will be dangerous for both fighters, as Rockhold is the better man in kickboxing range, while Blachowicz should prevail in boxing distance.

However, everything changes when we think about grappling. It won’t be easy to put Jan on the ground, but if Rockhold manages to do it, he should dominate. Luke’s BJJ skills are truly impressive, as he actively looks for submissions from any position. That being said, the real threat comes from Rockhold’s punches on the ground, which is arguably the most dangerous ground and pound in the UFC.

Luke is coming off 17 month layoff, so his shape is a bit questionable, but we can say the same about Jan, who suffered his first knockout loss few months ago.

I expect that the striking match will be balanced, but sooner or later Rockhold will find the way to take Blachowicz down and TKO him on the ground. Personally I bet Luke money line @1.57, but those odds dropped recently.

However I think there is still some value on Rockhold to win by finish and I could take that.
