Scott Coker Reveals Rory MacDonald vs Jon Fitch Is Targeted For March
The Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix quarter-final between RoryMacDonald and Jon Fitch is being targeted for a date in March according to Bellator President Scott Coker.
Coker revealed the news to MMAJunkie who are currently onsite reporting on the Bellator 212 and Bellator 213 fight cards taking place in Hawaii this weekend.
“He’s healing up, but I think he’s starting to train now,” Coker told MMAjunkie regarding the health of welterweight champion MacDonald.
“But he will be fighting Jon Fitch sometime in March. We’re finalizing the location of that fight.”
Coker went on to reveal that the he’s hoping that the final of the Grand Prix will take place in September.
“We’ll get into the semifinals in May and then June, and then September will be the finals,” Coker added. “So, that’s the timeframe for the tournament for the year.”
The tournament kicked off earlier this year in September when Douglas Lima defeated Andrey Koreshkov at Bellator 206.
Lima will go on to face the winner of the British showdown between Michael “Venom” Page and Paul Daley which is set to take place at Bellator 216 in February.
This weekend, Ed Ruth and Neiman Gracie will fight it out for a place in the semi-finals when they face each other at UFC 213 on Saturday.
