Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone vs. Alexander Hernandez On Tap for UFC on ESPN in Brooklyn
Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will make his return to the lightweight division on Jan. 19 when he’s expected to face Alexander Hernandez on the first UFC on ESPN+ card from Brooklyn, N.Y.
Sources close to the contest confirmed that bout agreements for the fight have been issued following an initial report from MMAJunkie.
Cerrone had said he planned to return to the lightweight division following his last win over Mike Perry in November. A former title contender at 155 pounds, Cerrone hasn’t fought in the division since losing in his bid to become champion back in 2015.
Cerrone returns to the division with the most wins and most finishes in UFC history but he’s looking to add to his legacy with another run at the lightweight title.
As for Hernandez, he made his debut earlier this year on short notice and then made short work of Beneil Dariush with a first round knockout. Hernandez proved that first fight was no fluke when he followed that up with a victory over Olivier Aubin-Mercier in July.
Now Hernandez will get the biggest step up in competition in his career when he faces Cerrone on Jan. 19 in Brooklyn as the UFC’s new five year broadcast deal with ESPN kicks off.
