Ryan Jimmo’s Killer Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison on Manslaughter Charges

Former UFC fighter Ryan Jimmo's killer was sentenced to 8 years in prison in a Canadian court on Monday after he was found guilty of manslaughter

The man responsible for killing former UFC fighter Ryan Jimmo has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

According to the Edmonton Journal, Jimmo’s killer — 26-year old Anthony Getschel — was sent to prison on manslaughter charges after intentionally striking the mixed martial artist with his car and then fleeing the scene.

Jimmo later died from the injuries suffered in the hit-and-run.

Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Paul Belzil handed down the judgment while calling the incident a ‘complete tragedy’ after Jimmo was killed.

“One man died for nothing,” Belzil told the courtroom that has members of both Jimmo and Getschel’s family in attendance. “Absolutely nothing.”

Jimmo, 34, was killed while visiting his girlfriend in Edmonton when he got into an altercation with Getschel in a parking lot after the fighter accused him of driving too aggressively.

Jimmo confronted the two men in the truck behind him but Getschel and another passenger stayed in their vehicle. When Jimmo went back around to return to his own vehicle, Getschel backed up and then drove around to the driver’s side and struck the fighter, dragging him around to the front of his vehicle where he was left for dead.

Getschel fled the scene, hid the vehicle and initially reported his license plate stolen before eventually turning himself into authorities two days later.

“I’m very sorry for the pain that I caused,” Getschel said in the courtroom during his sentencing. “I’ll never be able to forgive myself for what happened.”

Getschel will spend the next eight years in prison with another eight years of driving privileges being taken away after being convicted of manslaughter in the case.
