Leon Edwards Says Donald Cerrone’s Win Over Mike Perry Proves How Good He His

There’s plenty going on in the UFC welterweight division and Leon Edwards is a man quietly making his way up the rankings.

Riding a six-fight win streak and with the biggest win of his career under his belt in his last fight against Donald Cerrone, Edwards is hoping for another big name to stand opposite him when he next takes to the UFC Octagon.

Whilst Edwards bides his time on the sidelines recovering from a niggling back injury that he says should see him sit out until 2019, his last opponent Cerrone notched up an impressive win this past weekend at UFC Denver.

Speaking exclusively to Jim Edwards today, the Team Renegade man said he was overjoyed to see Cerrone get back into the win column in impressive fashion.

“I loved his performance and I messaged him congratulations,” Edwards said. “I thought he deserved the win and he was by far the better fighter out of him and Mike Perry.

“It was good to see him get the win and see how happy he was. With all the s*** that was going on about Perry training at JacksonWink and all that, I think he did his talking in the fight and I think it paid off well for him.”

With Cerrone beating Perry convincingly, Edwards believes it makes his unanimous deicision win over “Cowboy” in June look all that much better. He still though doesn’t believe he’s getting the credit his due for his wins.

“Sure it makes my win look good as well,” Edwards said regarding Cerrone’s win over Perry. “Everyone was saying that he’s done and this and that, but look at his performance this weekend. When I fought him he was coming off a win again Medeiros, yet when Darren [Till] fought him he was on a three fight losing streak.

“I don’t think I ever get the credit for beating these guys, but it is what it is. I’m used to that.”
